Chrysler vehicles have always been synonymous with class and sophistication. Like their vehicles, their logo has also evolved over time, but it’s always been a clear indicator of the brand’s prestige. Schmit Bros Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM is giving you a snapshot of the Chrysler logo history.
Logo Origination
The first Chrysler vehicle debuted in 1924 and featured a seal-shaped logo, which represented a seal of approval for the car’s quality. It also featured wings, which represented the speed of Mercury, a Roman god. Throughout the 30s and 40s, it went through many changes, including removing the wings, changing the color palette, and then re-adding a new version of the wings.
Major Changes
The logo had a complete rebrand in 1950, which only lasted one year. In 1951, it changed to a three-dimensional bird, representing the speed and progress of the brand. This eventually evolved to a V-shaped wings symbol in silver, which symbolized the modern evolution of Chrysler cars.
Pentastar Introduction
The Pentastar logo was first introduced in 1963. It was originally used as hood ornament, on the steering wheel, and the keys. The logo was still incorporated, in some instances, until the company’s merger with Daimler in 1998.
Switch to Typography
In 1980, a wordmark logo was introduced. Throughout the 90s, Chrysler went back to its roots many times, first by adding the winged seal again and then the Pentastar. Today, the logo features a blue area with “CHRYSLER” in white. It also includes three-dimensional wings and a blue and silver palette, which represents the company’s longevity.
