Dodge is currently expanding to more EV (Electric Vehicles), so many are wondering if they will pack the same power as the Dodge brand has offered for decades. Many Dodge fans and enthusiasts of the brand are probably shocked to see an electric Dodge muscle car. Those who remember the 60s, they will remember the Dodge golden era of muscle cars and the one that started it all.

The 1960 Dodge Polara was the first-ever muscle car made by Dodge in the 1960s and ended up being the most successful Dodge nameplate. That’s a mouthful. From 1960 through 1970 when the Dodge Challenger overtook the Dodge brand as its top Dodge vehicle, the Dodge Polara started it all. The name Polara is a reference to the Polaris star to appeal to the excitement about the Space Race in the 1960’s. Many thought that it did resemble a spaceship because of its wide body and dreamy colors that it could come in. Comfort on the inside was top notch as well. Based on the Mopar C body, the Dodge Polara had a lot of room and was specifically designed for everyday drivers in mind. Also, these cars last forever. Many of them outlived their owners by possibly a decade or more, as well as Dodge Polara police cars being known as some of the best of all time.

The Dodge Polara saw its first-generation from 1960 to 1961 and after two years, the second-generation was presented. The 1962 Dodge Polara was the start of a smaller muscle car that saw its wheelbase shortened. The Dodge Polara offered its third generation from 1965 and 1968 with the muscle car going into a full-size C platform build. The Polara eventually replaced the Dodge 880 and was the top vehicle for the brand. It ended with its fourth generation in 1969 that served for five years. The 1973 Polara was the last one as the Dodge brand formed the Monaco for the 1974 car year.

Many Dodge enthusiasts consider the Dodge Polara as one of the most underrated Dodge cars of all time, even if it’s just for nostalgic purposes. The bold grill and cat’s eye tail lamps were distinctive on the Dodge Polara. For many, it was their first car! It was sporty enough to suit its owner and large enough to carry a bunch of friends when gas was cheap, and people had nowhere to be but somewhere to go.

No matter how you slice it, the Dodge Polara has a name in Dodge history for being the first of its kind. Many car shows have Dodge Polaras regularly gracing them while people gaze from a distance at this classic C body Mopar car.
