Looking at new vehicles is not only overwhelming but sometimes can lead you with more questions than answers. Which
one has better gas mileage? Which has better storage? Can I tow with my vehicle? If you’ve ever been considering a Dodge Durango as your new-to-you vehicle and you’re a Dodge fan, you’ve also probably run across the Dodge Journey. While they are similar, there are several things that can set them apart. We’re going to go over the similarities and differences and hopefully can answer some of your questions. As always, our Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram product specialists here at Schmit Bros are always happy to answer any questions you may have when you’re looking for a new ride.

The Dodge Durango has been around since 1998 when the first model rolled off the assembly line while the Dodge Journey came around in 2009 but stopped production in 2020. The unique thing about the Dodge Durango is that it was introduced alongside the platform of the Dodge Dakota truck line in the late 90’s but is often thought of as a SUV. While it can seat seven, that doesn’t come standard. The Dodge Durango can also tow up to 7,200 lbs of whatever you need to move around: knowing we live in Wisconsin, that is often times boats, 4 wheelers, motorcycles, and snowmobiles while the Dodge Journey does not have the option for towing.

Both the Dodge Journey and the Dodge Durango are very family friendly vehicles; often able to fit families of 5 or more. The Dodge Durango is not as good on gas mileage as the Dodge Journey, but the Journey doesn’t have the power and torque that a Durango does. While the Journey is only equipped with a 4-cylinder engine, the Dodge Durango comes standard with a V6 and even has the option for a V8 Hemi! While the Dodge Durango has the option of all wheel drive, the Dodge Journey does not.

Both the Journey and the Durango come with extra storage space, but while the Journey has lots of extra nooks and crannies for small storage, the Durango definitely has more storage in the back for your everyday needs.

In terms of technology, the Durango and the Journey rank pretty close but the Durango has more options that come standard. While they both have 8.4 touch screens, Bluetooth options, and good audio, these only come standard on the Durango. They both have options to come with lane keeping assist, rear park assist, heated seats, and navigation but because the Dodge Journey only has 2 trim levels, the options are definitely smaller with the Journey than they are with the Durango.

Whatever your choice is in the world of Dodge SUV’s, we are sure that we have something that fits your needs. Cruise on out to our Dodge lot today to see what kind of Dodge Durango and Dodge Journey models we have in stock today!
