
The Dodge Hornet has been a car dream for a very long time. The idea was thought up in 2006 and was set to go into production for the 2010 year, but because of issues in the car industry, it was put on the back burner. Until now. The name was first used on a revolutionary Hudson model, the Hornet name and its rights were then passed on to Chrysler and Dodge.
Dodge is determined to get its feet wet and get back into the SUV industry. Featuring a 265-hp turbocharged four-cylinder, all-wheel drive, and a nine-speed automatic is the setup, but the R/T model is a plug-in hybrid and more than 30 miles of electric driving. The Dodge Hornet will offer Dodge’s first hybrid powertrain. It will also have high-tech equipment, with standard features that include a digital gauge display, Uconnect software, and emergency braking with pedestrian detection. The Dodge Hornet GT models and the Dodge Hornet R/T models in early 2023. In terms of size, the Dodge Hornet will be the little brother of the Dodge Durango.
The plug-in hybrid Dodge Hornet R/T model comes with a 12.0-kWh battery that is good for over 30 miles of electric driving per charge. Charging time on a level 2 charger is around two hours.
Black upholstery with red stitching is standard but the GT Plus and R/T Plus trims come with leather. Those ordered with the optional Track package get faux suede. An optional red leather interior option is also available for custom orders.
All Dodge Hornet models come with a 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge display. The software interface is the latest Uconnect 5 system, which is in use on the Chrysler Pacifica minivan and the Ram 1500. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard features.
