A new pickup truck is a big investment. This is why you have to be smart about which one you purchase. Seeing how a couple of different models compare to one another can help you narrow down your choice. Here we look at the RAM 1500 and Ford F-150 to see how they match-up in two important areas:

Power- and Drivetrain

The RAM 1500 comes with a potent 3.6-liter V6 that produces 305 horsepower and 269 lbs.-ft. of torque. Three other engines are available:

·       3.0-liter V6 diesel: 260 horsepower and 480 lbs.-ft. of torque

·       5.7-liter V8: 395 horsepower and 410 lbs.-ft. of torque

·       6.2-liter supercharged V8: 702 horsepower and 650 lbs.-ft. of torque

All engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive comes standard, but four-wheel drive is available. The Ford F-150 has a base 3.3-liter V6 that offers 290 horsepower and 265 lbs.-ft. of torque. It also has some available engines, but its top-of-line only produces 430 horsepower and 570 lbs.-ft. of torque.

Space and Comfort

The RAM 1500 has a spacious interior that seat six, and both rows have plenty of leg- and headroom. The rear bench seat in the Crew or Quad cab folds, which increases the cargo space. It will be your choice of cloth or synthetic leather upholstery. Genuine leather is available, as are eight-way power-adjustable front seats and heated and ventilated front and back seats. The base Ford F-150 only seats up to three people; you would need one of the bigger cabs in an upper trim to get a second row.
