Strong. Sleek. Tough. Ready for anything that gets in its way. The Dodge Durango literally encompasses its name: Durango, meaning strong, is everything that this SUV stands for, and then some. The Dodge Durango also takes a nod in it’s name from Durango, Colorado; a small city near the San Juan Mountains known for its friendly and down to earth atmosphere…where the people are kind, the smiles are endless, and the hot summer days turn into warm and cozy summer evenings.

The Dodge Durango is a midsized SUV that started out in the 1997 auto year. A few revamps and revisions later, the Dodge Durango is a staple in the SUV culture. Now in it’s third generation, the Dodge Durango is currently built on the same platform as it’s cousin, the Jeep Grand Cherokee. With a unibody structure and assembled right here in the United States in Detroit Michigan, the Dodge Durango is truly an all American SUV.

Initially the Dodge Durango was marketed as a truck-based SUV that could hold up to seven passengers and tow over 7,000 pounds; perfect for those family vacations up to the North Woods of Wisconsin with snowmobiles and four-wheelers. Initially marked for the SUV version of the Dodge Dakota truck, the Dodge Durango at first shared the same front end and front panel as the Dakota. And just like the Dodge Dakota, the Dodge Durango initially had a fully boxed frame.

The Dodge Durango had so much success that eventually Dodge decided to launch a luxury version SUV based off the Durango called the Chrysler Aspen.

Dodge announced that after two generations, the Dodge Durango would be discontinued in 2009. Months later, Dodge then announced that it would be back the next year in 2010 it’s third generation; made over and ready for action.

The Dodge Durango has had several trim levels over the years; The Dodge Durango Express (2011 only), the Dodge Durango Crew (2011-2013), the Dodge Durango Crew Plus (2010-2013), the Dodge Durango Limited (2014-2016), and the Dodge Durango SRT (2017-2018). Currently, the Dodge Durango comes as the Dodge Durango SXT, the Dodge Durango SXT Plus, the Dodge Durango GT, the Dodge Durango GT Plus, and the Dodge Durango Citadel.
